The Honorable Edith Brown Clement

Edith Brown Clement was appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth
Circuit 2001 after having served as a U. S. District Judge for the Eastern
District of Louisiana since 1991. She was a maritime attorney in the New
Orleans law firm of Jones, Walker, Waechter, Poitevent, Carrere & Denegre
from 1975 - 1991. Judge Clement received her undergraduate degree from the
University of Alabama in 1969 and her J.D. from Tulane Law School in 1973
and served as law clerk to the late U.S. District Judge Herbert W.
Christenberry from 1973-1975.
Memberships include: Maritime Law Association of the United States; the
Federal Bar Association; the Federalist Society Advisory Board, Louisiana
Chapter; American Inn of Court, Tulane Law School; Tulane Admiralty Law
Institute Advisory Board; the Committee on the Administrative Office of the
Judicial Conference of the United States (1995-2001); James Madison Program
in American Ideals and Institutions, Advisory Council at Princeton
University; Foundation for Research on Economics & the Environment, Board
Member; Sugar Bowl Committee.
